Olympic boxer Jonas Junias Jonas (27) remains in custody in Swakopmund, following his first court appearance on Monday in the town’s magistrate’s court on a charge of attempted murder and the assault of a police officer.

Jonas was arrested in Swakopmund last Friday (16 April 2021), following an early morning assault on a person in front of a shebeen in Mondesa. Soon thereafter he allegedly drove to the Mondesa police station where he assaulted a police officer on duty.
The person Jonas assaulted was so badly injured he was taken to the head-trauma unit of a Windhoek hospital hours after the assault. The police officer suffered a torn uniform. Jonas returns to court on 5 May and is expected to launch a formal bail application on the same day.
