After fleeing from a mini roadblock, a 38-year-old intoxicated man crashed his vehicle into a cellphone shop in Walvis Bay in the early hours of Sunday morning, 14 November.

The driver allegedly skipped a red traffic light when he realised traffic officials were closely behind, and landed his Toyota Corolla into the cell phone shop. A Breathalyzer test showed the man was indeed intoxicated. Unit Commander for Community affairs of the Erongo police, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, confirmed the incident.

Truck crashes down bridge: In another incident, also in the early hours of Sunday morning, a hatchback crashed into a truck causing the truck to veer over the road surface, crashing through the barrier on top of the Swakopmund railway Bridge and crashed down next to the railway tracks. Both the driver and co-driver of the truck escaped with serious injuries. The driver of the hatchback escaped unscathed. Recovery operations of the truck started immediately and lasted until daybreak.
