Telecom Namibia entered into an agreement with private entity, Paratus, in mid-February, for the landing of the Equiano sub-marine cable in Swakopmund, that belongs to Google.

Telecom Namibia confirms that the Indefeasible Right of Use (IRU) agreement (a type of telecommunications lease agreement) entered into is not a Public Private Partnership (PPP) in terms of the definition of the Public Private Partnership Act 4 of 2017 as referred to by public reports, but a collaboration between a public and private entity. An IRU con-tract allows the customer uninterrupted and exclusive use and access to spectrum capacity.
