Carlo Gordon, the skipper of the trawler Resplendent that sunk off the central Namibian west coast on Tuesday, is believed to have followed that unspoken rule of prudent seamanship: be the last one to leave the ship, if not the one to go down with the ship.

Resplendent went down at approximately 13:00 on Tuesday some 100 nautical miles northwest of Walvis Bay….
